Farmer’s Inn Restoration
The stained glass window from Farmer's Inn in Milstadt, IL is a prime example of the importance of restoration projects for historical buildings. The window, which is over a century old, had endured wear and tear over time. But with careful handling and attention to detail, it was able to be restored to its former grandeur.
Restoration work on stained glass windows typically involves several steps. First, the window must be carefully disassembled piece by piece, preserving any original glass that is still intact. The pieces are then cleaned and sorted, with any broken or damaged pieces identified for replacement.
Once the glass is clean and sorted, the next step is to create molds for any missing or damaged sections. This involves creating a template of the original design and using it to cut new pieces of glass to fit seamlessly into the window. This process requires a high level of skill and precision to ensure proper fit and alignment.
Chester Illinois Window Restoration
This project entailed carefully disassembling the window, replacing the damaged glass, and restoring the leadwork. Likely over a century old, the window was positioned at the end of a hallway in a grand, historic home. The intricate design featured a central rose motif surrounded by delicate floral patterns and geometric shapes. It was clear that this window was once a stunning centerpiece of the home, but over time it had fallen into disrepair.
As I carefully removed each piece of glass, I was struck by the level of craftsmanship that went into its creation. I knew that to do justice to this window, I would need to replicate this same level of precision and attention to detail in our restoration process.
After replacing the damaged glass with new, high-quality pieces, I began restoring the leadwork.
This window was salvaged from an older home slated for demolition to make way for a new build. The new owners, who happen to have a large Great Dane, unfortunately, experienced an accident when the dog ran into the window, damaging its bottom corner. After countless hours of meticulous work, I restored the window to its original condition, bringing it back to life. This window is a beautiful example of the craftsmanship and durability of older homes. Its intricate details and sturdy construction testify to the hard work and dedication put into building it.
But now, it has found a new home with these new owners who appreciate its beauty and character just as much as I do. The Great Dane accident may have caused some damage, but it also brought attention to this forgotten gem.
